Who's idea was this?

So somehow Andrew and I ended up with a box containing the top of our wedding cake after our reception (I don't even remember when my mom gave it to me). According to tradition you are supposed to keep a part of your cake in your freezer until your 1 year anniversary when you get to "enjoy" it together. We listened to tradition and kept that box stuffed in our freezer for a whole year. Needless to say, we were very curious to see how the thing faired after a year. I think the pictures tell the whole experience, but what I want to know is who's cake actually tasted good after a year of freezer-burn?

Um I had forgotten how delicious my cake was until we ate it again. We were fighting over it.

They recognized that their first wedding anniversary was fast approaching, and they would have to confront the frozen cakey mass in their freezer. Would it still be moist and sweet as it was on the summer day they were wed? Or would it be stale and cardboard-like in texture, with a faint hint of the re-frozen salmon steaks they forgot in the back of the freezer? They quietly reassessed their life together and realized that it did not really matter how the cake tasted now. Their life was not at all like cake and the metaphor was inappropriate. They committed to grow old together, not mold as cakes are prone to do.

Those pictures are great! We saved the top of our cake too, but I don't think it lasted a whole year...we like sweets. The frosting sure was nasty!

Happy Birthday Andrew!

Happy belated anniversary! We had 2 receptions, and therefore 2 cake tops--one in each of our parents' freezers. One was wrapped and packaged really well--my mom is kinda obsessed with that type of stuff--and it was actually good! Better than it was on our wedding day. The other one had hardcore freezer burn and tasted nastier than I can express. So I'm convinced it's all about how it's wrapped up. :)
